Day 15: Make Paper Lanterns

Lanterns bring a cosy glow to dark December evenings. Today’s activity is to make a festive paper lantern (not for real flames – only battery tea lights if you want them to shine).

✂️ What You’ll Need:

  • Coloured paper or card

  • Scissors (child-safe)

  • Glue stick or tape

  • Pencil and ruler

  • String or ribbon (optional)

  • Battery-operated tea light (optional for glow)

📝 Instructions:

1. Fold a piece of paper in half lengthways.

2. Draw a line along the open edge, about 2cm from the side.

3. Cut slits up to this line, spaced evenly apart.

4. Unfold the paper and curl it into a tube, taping the edges together.

5. Add a paper handle with string or ribbon.

6. Place over a battery tea light for a gentle glow.

🌟 Extra Idea:

Make lots of lanterns in different colours and hang them together to create a festive lantern display.

Tomorrow you’ll need:

Small toys, ice cube tray, freezer, salt or warm water for melting.
